Canadian Interviews: FEBRUARY 2012
Canadian Interviews Publishing is a company dedicated to examining politics and culture in Canada. Our goal is to offer many perspectives on the public life of the country through in-depth interviews with authors, businesspeople, politicians, professionals, artists, athletes, and musicians.
February is shaping up to be an exciting month at Canadian Interviews. A definite highlight will be our in-depth, revealing conversation with Lights. The young musician took a huge leap forward recently with her surprising sophomore album, Siberia. In our conversation, the subject matter ranges from photography to graphic novels to the challenges of live performance. Her music is hard to categorize definitively. There are elements of pop, electronica, dub-step, industrial rock, and more. Smart money says Lights will be selling out hockey arenas within a few years.
On the political front, we will continue to feature interviews with top candidates in the NDP leadership race. In January, we published a lengthy conversation with Toronto MP Peggy Nash, and coming up in February we will present our absorbing discussion with Ottawa MP Paul Dewar. Along with some intriguing policy points, we learn that Mr. Dewar enjoys listening to Arcade Fire and Sam Roberts!
Another thought-provoking interview this month comes courtesy of Andrew Penner, lead singer and guitarist for the band Sunparlour Players. If you have yet to check out the band in concert, it is definitely a worthwhile experience. The southern Ontario group just recently released a new album, Us Little Devils, which features excellent tracks like ‘Runner’ and ‘Green Thumb.’ Give it a listen. In March and April, the band is set to tour western Canada and Ontario with The Wooden Sky.
As always, please feel free to get in touch with any questions, comments, or suggestions. It is always great to hear from people across the country.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Andrew Gunn,
